What is laparoscopy operation?

  • It is commonly known as laparoscopy or pelvicoscopy operation. It is often called laser laparoscopy operation since one of lesion cauterization methods uses laser. If there is a lesion inside uterus, hysteroscopy operation which conducts an operation inserting surgical devices into cavity through vagina can be an option.
  • Such laparoscopy operation is developing rapidly and especially in gynecology. Nowadays it has been adopted in all the categories of operation of gynecology including treatment of ectopic pregnancy, disposal of ovarian tumor, treatment of endometriosis, replantation of uterine tube, disposal of fibroid, abdominal hysterectomy, and disposal of malignant tumor. Infertility clinic also utilizes the method for diagnosis and treatment to find causes of cancer.
When laparoscopy operation is needed
  • 01. Endometriosis
  • 02. Suspected ectopic pregnancy
  • 03. Suspected pelvis or fallopian tube adhesion
  • 04. Ovarian tumor or fibroid is found by ultrasound
  • 05. Abdominal hysterectomy is required
  • 06. Failure of pregnancy by unknown cause
  • 07. Irregular and continuous uterine bleeding
  • Laparoscopy has various advantages. Its technic is,however, difficult than that of laparotomy, and requires a long time of experiences. Therefore skilled doctors with a history of lots of laparoscopy operation usually conduct the operation.

How to conduct laparoscopy operation

  • 01. Gas injection into abdominal cavity
    • Under general anesthesia, cut a patient’s skin for about 1㎝ below a naval. Using veress needle, inject CO2 gas into abdominal cavity. First insert the needle and check whether it is well put into the cavity. Keep the pressure inside of cavity for about 12mmHg and execute the operation.
  • 02. Trocar injection for using camera and surgical devices
    • Insert the first trocar onto the incision. The trocar is about 11mm thick, and through it, laparoscopy with an attached camera is inserted. After inserting laparoscopy, observe inside of cavity and conduct operation via monitor. To avoid damages to blood vessels, flash a light from the inside and mark where to cut. Cut each part for 5mm and insert trocar into each part. Commonly around 3 trocars are used in an operation.
  • 03. Laparoscopy surgery
    • A surgeon stands on the left of a patient. Assistant 1 is on the opposite, assistant 2 is near the head of patient controlling a camera. On the left of surgeon, a nurse is. Each surgical device is inserted through a trocar in the cavity. The surgeon conducts the operation observing the inside of cavity via monitor.
